Troop Leadership

The Troop 1 Trailblazers are a Scout led troop. Scouts learn leadership skills by actually leading! In addition leadership roles are required for some rank advancements. Senior Patrol Leader

The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) is an elected position and is responsible to the ScoutMaster (SM)

  • Preside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and annual program planning conference.
  • Chair the patrol leaders' council (PLC).
  • Name appointed boy leaders with the advice and consent of the Scoutmaster.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to other leaders.
  • Senior Patrol Leader should have completed JLTC (Junior Leadership Training Conference) prior to assuming this position if it has been offered in our area.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) is an appointed position and is responsible to the SPL

  • Be responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: scribe, librarian, troop historian, instructor, quartermaster, webmaster, leave no trace trainer and chaplains aide.
  • Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the senior patrol leader.
  • Take over troop leadership in the absence of the senior patrol leader. Perform tasks assigned by the senior patrol leader.
  • Function as a member of the patrol leaders' council (PLC).
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Patrol Leader

The Patrol Leader (ASPL) is an electeded position and is responsible to the SPL

  • Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities.
  • Keep patrol members informed.
  • Assign each patrol member a job and help them succeed.
  • Know what the patrol members and other leaders can do.
  • Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders' council (PLC) meetings and at the annual program planning a conference.
  • Prepare the patrol to take part in all troop activities.
  • Develop patrol spirit.
  • Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Assistant Patrol Leader

The Patrol Leader (APL) is an appointed position and is responsible to the PL

  • Assist the patrol leader in planning and leading patrol meetings and activities.
  • Keeping patrol member informed. Preparing their patrol to take part in all troop activities.
  • Take charge of the patrol in the absence of the patrol leader.
  • Represent the patrol at all patrol leaders council (PLC) meetings in the absence of the patrol leader.
  • Help develop patrol spirit.
  • Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Quarter Master

The Quartermaster (QM) is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL and the Adult QuarterMaster

  • Attends monthly QM meetings.
  • Keep records of patrol and troop equipment.
  • Keep equipment in good repair Issue equipment and see that it is returned in good order.
  • Suggest new or replacement items.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Troop Guide

The Troop Guide (TG) is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASM working with the New Scout Patrol(s)

  • Help Scouts meet advancement requirements through First Class.
  • Advise New Scout patrol leader on his duties and his responsibilities at PLC meetings
  • Attend patrol leaders' council meetings with the new Scout patrol leader.
  • Prevent harassment of new Scouts by older Scouts.
  • Help assistant Scoutmaster train new patrol leader when he is elected.
  • Guide new Scout though early troop experiences to help them become comfortable in the troop and the outdoors.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Scribe

The Scribe is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Attend and keep a log of patrol leaders' council (PLC) meetings.
  • Record attendance as required.
  • Maintain troop correspondence (thank you notes, donation requests, etc.)
  • Work with appropriate troop committee members responsible for finance, records and advancement as needed.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Librarian

The Librarian is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Establish and maintain a troop library.
  • Keep records on literature owned by the troop.
  • Add new or replacement item needed.
  • Have literature available for borrowing at troop meetings.
  • Keep system to check literature in and out.
  • Follow up on late returns.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Den Chief

A Den Chief is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Knows the purposes of Cub Scouting.
  • Helps Cub Scouts advance through Cub Scout ranks.
  • Encourages Cub Scouts to join a Boy Scout Troop upon graduation.
  • Assists with activities in the Den Meetings. Is a friend to the boys in the Den.
  • Helps out at weekly Den Meetings and monthly Pack meetings.
  • Meets with adult members of the Den, Pack, and Troop as necessary.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

Order of the Arrow Representative

The Order of the Arrow Representative is an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Encourage year round and resident camping in the Troop, older Scout participation in high adventure programs, and participation in community service projects.
  • Assist with leadership skills training.
  • Encourage Arrowmen to fill leadership positions in the Troop, and participate in OA activities.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.
  • Must be an active member of the Order of the Arrow

Troop Webmaster

The Troop Webmaster an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Work with various unit members on needed topics for Troop Website.
  • Ensure the Troop Web site is youth-run as possible.
  • Help out with the Troop Web site.
  • Works with appropriate troop committee members responsible for Troop Web.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.

LNT Trainer

The Leave No Trace Trainer an appointed position and is responsible to the ASPL

  • Know and teach the seven principles of Leave No Trace to Troop members.
  • Know and teach the Outdoor Code to Troop members.
  • Attend a BSA certified Leave No Trace training program, when offered.
  • Work with Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters and Troop Leaders to promote and train "Leave No Trace" at all campouts and events.
  • Sets the example, wears the uniform correctly, lives by the Scout Oath and Law, and shows Scout spirit.
